Seeing red

Judging by the cardinal that visited me recently and the blooms in front of the house - it must be spring.

Happy Earth Day!

Cap 10K

Glenn and I ran the Capital 10,000 this past Sunday (along with 20,000 of my closest friends). My first real run in over a year. I tried my best to not embarrass myself. Not sure I was entirely successful on that front. Thanks Glenn for the motivation (contrary to the photo below, he actually finished ahead of me) and Alison for the shuttle service.

Alchemy

I had the good fortune of meeting James Flatman of the Alchemy Bicycle Company a couple of years ago at the NAHBS in Indianapolis. He now has his own custom frame building business in South Austin after many years of welding for Dean Titanium cycles in Colorado. Remember that nice pale blue Speevagen of mine that was crushed when it got hit by a truck? Well, James is is repairing it by welding on a new front triangle for me. It seemed a waste of a nice frame not to fix it.

While I was at Alchemy today, I had a fancy custom fitting done with their new Retül 3-D bike fitting system.
Retül uses LEDs and motion capture software to analyze your bike fit. I won't bother you with all the details that you can read here, but I did find out my cleats were mounted too far back, my saddle needed to be moved back and down, and my stem needed to be moved up. I'm told these changes will make me at least 67.3% faster. I can't wait.

Btw, James and Alchemy have graciously signed on to be a Hyde Park Velo sponsor. Many thanks!
