L'Eroica

It's not dirty. Just a little dusty. On my list of places to ride:

In TdF news, yesterday, the organizers released the 22 teams racing in this year's tour. Did anyone else notice that there are 4 USA based teams? That's huge.

Team HTC-Columbia (USA)
Garmin - Transitions (USA)
Team RadioShack (USA)
BMC Racing Team (USA)

Wish list

I've been working on a few bike projects lately. Here's what I need to really finish them properly:

Nitto lugged stem. These are made from Reynolds 853 steel tubing with fancy carved lugs.

Velo Orange Grand Cru brakes. Long reach - for the DeSalvo audax day tripper. The extra reach allows me to use my fancy Gilles Berthoud carbon fenders.

Nitto Mark bars. Traditional drop bars that are 50g lighter than the Nitto Noodle.

HandleBras. The nicest leather wrap out there. Saw these at Indy NAHBS. Can be custom ordered in a number of colors. Also available with custom stitching in your choice of colors. A bit pricey, but there's a $10 discount until the end of the month.

Speaking of NAHBS, the North American Handmade Bicycle Show is in Austin next year! I guess I'll be able to continue my streak of attending every other year. Start saving your pennies and get ready for some amazing craftsmanship.

6 girls, 4 nights

The Cocktail Slippers left for Oslo early Saturday morning (very, very early). A bunch of us caught their last show of SXSW at Spider House Friday evening. The Chinese Invasion was also taking over Spider House that night (really, that's what their tour was called).

Afterward, we scrambled to catch Cheap Trick at Auditorium Shores. How we managed to find Glenn and Karen in that crowd still amazes me. Speaking of amazing, I saw Cheap Trick as a young lad in 1980, and I'm happy to report they still sound and act the same. Really, that's a good thing.

(sorry, I forgot to focus on this one)

Ides of March and a half

It's been a busy month, so a brief recap:

03/21 - Health Care Reform passes. Woohoo!

03/19 - Went to REI with a few friends to hear Russ and Laura speak about their cross country. They sold most of their possessions and embarked on this journey 8 months and 5000 miles ago - they're about half-way there.

03/13 - Pete, Glenn and I accompanied Eric on his first bike ride since he separated his shoulder. Got a chance to see some of the new bike markings the city has been putting in. I believe the green zone means cyclist get a free pass to the front of the line.

03/09 - Glenn and I went to hear Pete reflect on the 20th Anniversary of the Steve Jackson Raid case. A case where Pete successfully sued the federal government for illegal seizure of e-mail and electronic manuscripts. Also on the panel that night at Independence Brewery were Steve Jackson and author Bruce Sterling.

03/08 - One year anniversary of my close encounter with a truck.

03/06 - Pete, Dustin and I rode the Pedal Thru The Pines ride in Bastrop. Actually, Pete and Dustin rode to the start from my house. Me? I drove to Bastrop - Hey, somebody had to bring all the bike back home.

Tri delts

What are the take-aways from the above picture?

1. The Cocktail Slippers are in town for SXSW - all 6 of them (5 Norwegians and a Swede) are staying at my place for a few days. I feel like I'm living in a sorority house (sans pillow fights). I came home for lunch today to find these 3 waiting on my porch. The band was on their way to their first South-By gig, but with 6 girls and all their gear, they need two taxis whenever they travel. Apparently, one taxi arrived, but these 3 waited an hour for the 2nd taxi that never came. Btw, they play 3 shows this Friday. Check out their schedule for more details.

2. I filled out my 2010 census form. It really did only take 10 minute like the PSA says - maybe less. Stand up and be counted.
